Every type we track.

Each type has a fleet page measured the same way, so any two line up. The headline figure is how many hours the middle aircraft flies a year.

Hours are estimated from time in the air, for the middle aircraft of each type over the twelve months to 31 July 2026. Every type is measured across all its aircraft, in every region. Download the fleet table (CSV)

02

Head-to-head comparisons.

Two fleets, measured the same way over the same window, side by side: which is flown harder, from where, and on what kind of trips.

Compare two types

Pick any two. Where we’ve written the comparison, it opens; otherwise you get both fleet pages, and whether their figures line up.

03

The four size classes.

Four classes, the same on every page, from airport traffic to fleet statistics.

4 types, 1,265 aircraft

Very light

Four to five seats and short legs. The entry point to jet ownership.

Most common: Cessna Citation Mustang, Embraer Phenom 100, Honda HondaJet HA-420

11 types, 5,567 aircraft

Light

Six to eight seats, typically flown on one- to two-hour trips.

Most common: Embraer Phenom 300, Cessna Citation CJ2, Cessna Citation CJ3

14 types, 4,857 aircraft

Midsize

Stand-up cabins and transcontinental range, including the super-midsize jets.

Most common: Cessna Citation XLS, Hawker 800XP/850XP/900XP/750, Cessna Citation V/Ultra/Encore

20 types, 8,659 aircraft

Large cabin

Long-range cabins that cross oceans non-stop.

Most common: Bombardier Challenger 600 series, Bombardier Challenger 300/350, Gulfstream GV/G550

How we classify. Each type takes the class of its category in our data, and every page uses the same assignment. Midsize includes the super-midsize jets. Where sources disagree, we keep the class used across our pages rather than switch type by type.

How the figures are made

Flight data, normal days and coverage are explained in the methodology.

How many business jets do you track?

We track 20,348 business jets across 49 types. Every type is measured across all its aircraft, in every region. Every count is a minimum, since aircraft that never appear in our coverage are missed.

What is the most common business jet?

The Bombardier Challenger 600 series, with 959 aircraft tracked, followed by the Cessna Citation XLS and the Embraer Phenom 300.

Which manufacturer has the most business jets?

Cessna, with 6,733 aircraft across 14 types, followed by Bombardier and Gulfstream.

Which business jets are flown the most?

Switch the list above to the ranked view: every type in order of how many hours its middle aircraft flies a year, measured the same way over the same twelve months.

What is on each aircraft page?

How the type’s fleet is really flown: hours per landing, short hops, salt air, demanding runways, flights a month, where the aircraft are based and fly, and how many fly charter.

How do I compare two business jets?

Open a head-to-head comparison, where we have one, or open both fleet pages: every type is measured the same way, so the figures line up. To compare specific aircraft rather than types, Spotlight puts up to five tails side by side.

How is one aircraft different from its fleet?

Each tail has its own free record, graded against every aircraft of its type. Enter a registration to see where it sits.

Fleet counts cover 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026; every count is a minimum, since aircraft outside coverage are missed.
